Following the Provincial Medical Health Officer orders, masks are required for anyone visiting the library. This is in addition to physical distancing, occupancy limits, and other safety measures.

A properly worn mask covers your nose and mouth at all times.

Masks are available. Speak to a member of staff.

There are currently no overdue fines on library materials. However, we ask that you still return your items by their due dates so others can enjoy them.

Takeout Service

Browse our entire collection at search.virl.bc.ca, place holds, then go to your branch with your library card when your holds are ready for pick-up.

What you can expect

  • Accessing our entire collection at search.virl.bc.ca or by calling 1.877.415.8475
  • Picking up your materials without any contact with staff or other customers
  • Return library materials during Takeout Service hours

  • Browsing in-branch or accessing the interior of the building
  • Self-checkout

Walkthrough Service

Step inside your branch to safely and securely browse a limited collection, use our self-checkout machines, and bring home some exciting new titles. Be sure to bring your library card along with you.

  • Access to lobby space and some collections
  • Fine payment (cash allowed)
  • People counter/access control
  • Self-serve photocopying if the copier is already in walkthrough area
  • Increased returns, where possible

  • Public computers and printing
  • Washrooms
  • In-branch programs
  • Meeting and study rooms
  • In-person information desk services

Sit Down Service

Access your branch, browse some or all of the collection, and then sit down to enjoy some well earned time at your library, all in an environment that’s safe, controlled, and sanitized. Be sure to bring your library card along with you.

What you can expect

  • Browsing some or all of the in-branch collection (dependant on location layout)
  • Self-checkout where possible
  • Self-serve holds
  • Accessing the Washrooms
  • Fine payments (cash allowed)
  • Limited computer access
  • Printing and photocopying available
  • Limited seating
  • Book return bins/slots open 24 hrs where possible
