RE-opening Saturday November 21 for take out and walkthrough services! Due to unexpected facility issues, we had to temporarily close the Chemainus branch. We sincerely appreciate your patience.
If you were waiting to pick up an item on hold for you at the Chemainus branch, we especially appreciated your patience. We will keep all items on hold at the Chemainus branch for an additional week.
Take out: Mornings from 10am -12pm Tuesdays to Saturdays, and 6-7pm on Wednesday evenings. Please bring your library card to pick up your requested items at the front door.
Walkthrough: Afternoons from 2-4pm Tuesdays to Saturdays, and 6-7pm on Tuesday evenings. Customers can browse the library collection, pick up holds and use one of our 2 computers. No washrooms or meeting rooms are available at this time.
Following the Provincial Medical Health Officer orders, masks are now required when visiting the library. This is in addition to physical distancing, occupancy limits, and other safety measures.
A properly worn mask covers your nose and mouth at all times.
Masks are available. Speak to a member of staff.
Our bookdrop is open 24/7. To return items please use the book drop located at the back side of the building. Note: Returned items will be quarantined for 48 hours, and may show as checked out on your account during this time; thank you for your patience as we process them.
About the Branch
The new Chemainus branch opened in January 2020 on the corner of Cypress and Willow Street. Historically, the Chemainus branch has seen a lot of books and people pass through its doors since the first library opened in the Masonic Hall in 1949. The previous branch library opened on Legion Street in 1990 and served the community well for nearly 30 years.
- Open for Takeout mornings and walkthrough afternoons
- Free public WiFi
- Research help
- Collection size of almost 15,000 items
- Library Manager – Stephen Warren
Please note: our meeting room is currently not available.
The meeting spaces at the Chemainus branch are available for library programs and by community groups. At this time, our branch is only booking non-profit and community groups (sorry, no strata meetings or for-profit/business use). Use of the space is FREE! If your group wishes to support the library with a donation, it will be gladly received at the branch or online. Preference given to groups that are open to the public.
Those wishing to book meetings can contact our librarians at firstname.lastname@example.org with their:
- desired date and time (include options for best chance of getting a space)
- name of group
- general purpose of your group
- how many people you expect
- technology needs
- contact information for the person in charge of the booking
