Vancouver Island Regional Library has over 450 employees and serves over 430,000 people through 39 branch locations on Vancouver Island, Haida Gwaii, Bella Coola on the central mainland coast, and through our eLibrary at www.virl.bc.ca.

Permanent Full Time Employees
Employees who have been assigned to a regularly scheduled 35 hours per week position and who have completed probation.
Permanent Part Time Employees
Employees who have been assigned a regularly scheduled position of less than 35 hours per week and who have completed probation.
An employee who has no permanently scheduled hours and is willing to work on call with or without notice.
Employees who are classified as Pages must be a minimum of 16 years old and be registered and attend school on a full time basis.

Types of Employment
VIRL hires the best qualified candidates. Selections for bargaining unit positions are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the appropriate collective agreement. Depending on the job description and the location of the position, employees will be classified in one of the following groups:
