Calling all aspiring poets: in honour of Asian Heritage Month we are holding a haiku contest just for teens!

Winning poems will be framed and displayed in your local library branch for all to see. After one month, you may pick up your framed poem to keep. Every branch will have one winner from each age category.

Submit your poem online using this form or in person at your local branch. If submitting in person, be sure to include your name, age, and telephone number.

Contest details:

  • Contest will run May 1-31
  • Two age categories: 11-14, 15-18
  • One entry per person
  • Contest will be held at branches in the Strathcona Regional District (except Campbell River)

* Haiku consists of three lines. The first line and third line both have five syllables and the middle line has seven (But we will not be very strict).
* Haiku appeals to the senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch) and it touches the heart.
