An introduction to pruning trees and shrubs for the novice. We will cover proper tools, cuts, timing, and the sequence of steps that will help keep your plants healthy while maintaining their natural form. You’ll also learn where to find information and instructions on how to prune whatever plant for whatever specialty purpose you have in mind.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Debora Gurrad has been interested in growing things since watching her parents in their garden and begging for her own little patch as a child. Her love of plants was really sparked by a botany class at university and she has been gardening at every opportunity since. She first learned about Master Gardeners over 20 years ago and after moving to Vancouver Island in 2017 was finally able to take the training and become certified. Her special interests are pruning, root prep for successful transplanting, and food gardening. She is a retired high school teacher and counselor who still loves to teach so often gives workshops and presentations on gardening topics from Campbell River to Nanaimo. And by the way, her 93-year-old mom was still puttering in her garden until recently!
ABOUT VIMGA:
The Vancouver Island Master Gardeners Association (VIMGA) is a chapter of the Master Gardeners Association, an international service society of specially trained volunteers who teach science-based sustainable gardening practices to home gardeners. VIMGA is one of the 5 chapters in the British Columbia Association and partnering with the Victoria chapter, specializes in the stewardship of Vancouver Island’s unique environment.
