Seed Library Launch
The Sidney/North Saanich branch is launching a new seed library where community members can access free vegetable and flower seeds. Thank you to West Coast Seeds for their generous seed donation!
Emily Harris, Executive Director of Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture, will help us launch the seed library. She will talk about the Sandown Centre, their gardening course and community gardens. Emily will share seed starting tips and demonstrate how to plant seeds.
What’s a seed library?
A seed library is a collection of vegetable and flower seeds that community members may access to plant in their own gardens and planters.
Why is the Sidney/North Saanich branch launching a seed library?
We want to help make growing seeds accessible to everyone, to raise awareness about library books and resources about gardening and growing seeds, and to encourage food security.
When will the seed library be available?
The seed library will be available at the end of the launch event on April 14, and then any time during library open hours. People can take up to 3 seed packets per visit.
How will the seed library keep going?
We welcome seed donations!
People may collect seeds at harvest time for their own use and to donate to the seed library. New to collecting seeds? The library has some great resources linked here to get you started.
We will also gladly accept donations of unused or partially used seed packets dated within the last 3 years.
