Truth for Reconciliation Photographic Slideshow w/ Mary Coakley

Mary Coakley will present a photographic slideshow that chronicles her five month 2022 Solo Northern Canada Expedition during which she drove to the furthest points north, along the most northern west to east roads. This took her to Tuktoyaktuk, Yellowknife, the northern end of James Bay and to Northwest Newfoundland. And much of that journey was in Indigenous communities. Her presentation will introduce her research into the National Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report and the history of residential schools, then through her travels, leading up to the portraits of the individuals who agreed to allow their images and stories to be told, and summarizes her experience and key messages from elders and T&R educators.
