Summer of Reading at Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL)
Get ready to colour your summer with reading! Our summer reading clubs and challenges are back, inviting readers and book lovers of every age to immerse themselves in stories and connect with their local library.
Whether you’re a child, teen, or adult, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this summer. Join us for an unforgettable summer filled with books, prizes, and fun!
Summer Reading Club (SRC)
Theme: Colour Your Summer
The Summer Reading Club (SRC) is a province-wide initiative sponsored by the British Columbia Library Association (BCLA) and local public libraries, designed to encourage children and families to keep reading over the summer months.
Dates: July 2 – August 20
Registration: Begins June 16 (in-branch)
By joining the SRC, kids can discover new stories, unlock their creativity, and build essential reading skills in a fun and engaging way. It’s a fantastic opportunity to make reading a part of every day this summer!
Teen Summer Challenge (TSC)
Theme: Nightshade Academy
Teens—get ready to challenge yourself with exciting activities that will test your skills, knowledge, and creativity! This year’s Teen Summer Challenge is all about exploring new ideas, trying new things, and reading books that are sure to expand your horizons.
Dates: July 2 – August 31
Join the fun and unlock your potential as you complete activities, explore new stories, and connect with your local library. Who knows? You might even discover your new favourite genre or hobby!
Adult Summer Reading Challenge (ASRC)
Get ready for a bingo game with a twist!
The Adult Summer Reading Challenge (ASRC) invites adults to dive into books, complete challenges, and win amazing prizes along the way. It’s the perfect way to turn your summer reading into an adventure while having fun and exploring new titles.
Dates: July 2 – August 31
Grab your bingo card, complete the reading tasks, and you could be one of the lucky winners of fantastic prizes!
How to Participate:
- Register: Visit your local VIRL branch to sign up for your program—whether it’s the SRC for kids, the TSC for teens, or the ASRC for adults.
- Read and Explore: Complete challenges, read books, and participate in fun activities.
