Support your library this GivingTuesday by becoming a library super user and donating to help raise $3,000 for services, programs, materials and new builds that library lovers like you have come to enjoy. Your support can help make the difference between a good and great public library system.
What is Giving Tuesday?
GivingTuesday, on December 3, is a movement that encourages people to come together, show up for causes they care about, give to those in need and do good in a season that is typically about holiday sales. Across Canada, businesses, charities, non-profits, and people come together to celebrate giving and engage in activities that support non-profits.
The need at Vancouver Island Regional Library
Our libraries are the cornerstone of our communities, offering universal, barrier-free access to knowledge, lifelong learning and literacy with in-branch and online services. Most importantly, our branches are warm, welcoming spaces for anyone to gather, learn, grow and meet. This year, we are running a week-long donation campaign from December 2 to December 7, to ask library users and fans to consider making a donation to help us elevate the programs, services and collection they’ve come to enjoy. We are also seeking donations for a new library and a new Haida Language Immersion Lab in Masset, B.C.
Every donation over $10 will be eligible for a tax receipt.
Here are some examples of how your financial donation can help:
- Improving our children’s collection (both digital and print)
- Funding programs and literacy-focused events for the community
- Enhancing our library facilities, technology, and equipment
- Development of the new Masset library and Haida Language Immersion Lab
- And more…!
Donations are not the only way you can support the library this GivingTuesday…
While we are thankful for any financial donations, you can also support your regional library system by purchasing any of our library-themed merchandise at your local branch, using your local library and the programs and services it offers or by spreading the love for your local library on social media using the graphic above or your own posts (don’t forget to tag us in your posts! @MyVIRL on Facebook or @vilibrary for Instagram).
Why the totes?
The gray totes in our campaign are a symbol of what connects us. Each branch has the totes, which are distributed between our branches as we move our floating collection of books, DVDs, CDs (and more) and help us bring you the items you’ve requested.
