It’s Summer Reading Club season at Vancouver Island Regional Library 

Summer is here and that means summer reading clubs and challenges for readers and library lovers of every age across the system!

Kids’ Summer Reading Club 

Explore a World of Curiosities with us for the 2024 Summer Reading Club!

Registration for SRC opened June 18 in-branch. Complete details about SRC are available at https://virl.bc.ca/src/.   

The SRC runs July 2 – August 20. 

What’s new for 2024?

  • We are virtual and at your local branch!
  • To join, visit your local branch and pick up your SRC package. It is that easy!
  • Track your weekly progress on your reading log and enter to win prizes!
  • Trading cards
  • Check out our many programs and activities that are taking place throughout the summer.

Programs

Our goal this summer is to encourage kids and families to connect with their local branch to personally experience SRC fun! See below for our system-wide virtual programs available to all or check out your local branch programs in our events calendar.

Some virtual programs we are providing are as follows:

  • Become a marine adventurer with us as we embark on an ocean safari adventure!
  • Live online drawing workshop with SRC artist Meneka Repka!
    • All ages SRC Drawing Workshop: Magic Mango Monsters will take place Thursday, July 25 at 11 am. To register, email kids@virl.bc.ca with the participant’s first name. Please use the subject line ‘Drawing Workshop’.

Teen Summer Challenge (TSC)

Open the door to reveal a marvelous realm of wonder by joining this year’s Teen Summer Challenge: Chamber of Marvels!

Teen Summer Challenge runs July 2 – August 20.

HOW DOES IT WORK???

It’s as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Starting July 2nd, pick up a Chamber of Marvels activity booklet at your local library branch or download one right here.
  2. Earn points by doing as many of the activities in the booklet as you can.
  3. Submit your completed activities through our Virtual Teen Summer Challenge Portal.

1 point = 1 prize draw entry, and the more involved the activity, the more points it’s worth.

Complete all three activities in the same badge category for a bonus entry.

Activity submissions must be received via our Virtual Teen Summer Challenge Portal or emailed to us at teensc@virl.bc.ca by before 11:59pm August 31 to be entered in the draw.   You must be at least 12 years old by this date to win a prize.

WHAT CAN YOU WIN???

  • Grand Prize: $300 Bookstore Gift Card
  • Second Prize: $200 Bookstore Gift Card
  • Third Prize: $100 Bookstore Gift Card

Adult Summer Reading Challenge (ASRC)

Let your curiosity run wild this summer with the Adult Summer Reading Challenge!

Summer of Wonders Reading Bingo is here for our new Adult Summer Reading Challenge! Download the printable BINGO sheet here, pick up materials in your local branch, or do it all online. Then, complete BINGO squares, lines and even the whole card to earn draw slips to win prizes! Easy right?
