Summer Reading Club Wrap Ups a Summer of Literacy with DRAG Extravaganza!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nanaimo, BC (Friday, August 18, 2023) – Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) is gearing up to celebrate a summer full of reading and literacy with a special, virtual wrap up celebration. On Tuesday, August 22 at 6pm, families are invited to join the 2023 Summer Reading Club DRAG EXTRAVAGANZA wrap-up party! This virtual event will be held over Zoom and is best suited for ages 3-12 years and their families.
“We are so excited to be hosting another popular Drag Storytime,” says VIRL’s Director of Public Services and Planning, Eileen Gillette. “As well as promoting equality, diversity, and welcoming spaces, these events are lot of fun for the whole family.”
This years’ Summer Reading Club also featured tons of programs and performances at branches across VIRL’s service area, including Juno award-winning children’s singer/songwriter, Peter Puffin.
Drag Storytimes are popular events at VIRL branches across our library system. They’re opportunities for everyone to have fun reading children’s stories, singing songs, and playing together, led by a member of their community who is challenging gender norms.
This is a free, virtual event and everyone is welcome to attend. Find out more about this event and all the great things happening at VIRL at virl.bc.ca/calendar. Register for the event at https://virl.bc.ca/event/dragextravaganza/.
