One eRead Canada launches April 1
March 25, 2022
Mark your calendars! Beginning April 1, you can join One eRead Canada; a cross-country reading experience.
From April 1-30, you can get free and unlimited eBook and eAudiobook access to The Break by Katherena Vermette. It’s a stunning and heartbreaking debut novel about a multigenerational Métis–Anishinaabe family dealing with the fallout of a shocking crime in Winnipeg’s North End.
Readers from more than 1,000 public libraries across the country will take part in this year’s digital book club, an initiative of the Canadian Urban Libraries Council (CULC). Join the discussion with other bookworms by visiting the One eRead Canada Facebook group and watch for an upcoming live event with the author on April 20.
Here’s how to get involved:
- Download the book, with no holds or waitlists between April 1-30 through your Libby app or from our online eBook/eAudiobook collection here.
- Join the national discussion on Facebook or Twitter (#1eReadLivrelCanada).
- On April 20, tune into One eRead Canada’s social media pages for a live, virtual conversation between the author of The Break, Katherena Vermette and CBC host Shelagh Rogers. On April 21, , Mélissa Verreault, the French translator of The Break, and Radio-Canada host Marie-Louise Arsenault will discuss the book.
In addition to being a national, bilingual digital book club, One eRead Canada aligns with CULC’s ongoing campaign, eContent for Libraries. CULC aims to increase public awareness and advocacy of the eBook and eAudiobook issues, such as content, pricing, and access, currently faced by public libraries in Canada.
