New book club explores human rights

February 5, 2025

Explore human rights through storytelling and discussion in our new virtual adult book club.

Beginning January 27, we are starting a librarian-led human rights book club in support of the BC Office of the Human Rights Commissioner and its monthly book selections.

The Office recently launched its own book club where the Commissioner releases a book title for adults and children each month with discussion guides. It’s meant as a self-guided club (with no meetings or schedules ) to connect people who are curious and hopeful for a better world and help spark lifelong learning about human rights.

To support the new initiative, we are taking it one step further by ensuring the monthly book pick for adults is available as an unlimited-use eBook or downloadable audiobook through the free Libby app (or online via Libby) and we’ve launched a new virtual club that will meet monthly to talk about the latest book.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 24 from 2:30 – 4 pm. Register now to get the meeting link and connect with other Vancouver Island Regional Library readers interested in human rights.

February’s adult title is Beloved by Toni Morrison. Get it as an eBook or audiobook on the Libby app with no holds or waits!

Please note, the book club supports the adult pick only. For the children’s book of the month, please visit the BC Office of the Human Rights Commissioner book club page. It also has a colouring book for kids available to print.
