Downtown Nanaimo Prepares for Major Filming Production with Some Closures Between April 22 & May 31
Update: The Harbourfront library will be closed on May 13 and 14. Pop-up “boutique” library will be OPEN at the Port Theatre during this time.
Commercial Street will be CLOSED May 10-15. Access to the Diana Krall Plaza and the Nanaimo Harbourfront Library is available by elevator, from the parkade under the Library.
Excitement is buzzing in the Diana Krall Plaza just outside of our Nanaimo Harbourfront library as preparations for the filming of a major production from April 22 to May 31 are taking place.
The filming will close sections of downtown Nanaimo near the library in three phases over the course of the five weeks of filming. During this time, the library will remain open to library users and staff, except for two days during the filming.

How will the library be impacted?
Update: The Harbourfront library will be closed on May 13 and 14. Closing of Commercial Street May 10-15. Access during this time will be available through the elevator in the parkade, under the Library.
During filming (between the dates of April 22 and May 31) public areas surrounding the library branch will be intermittently closed to the public. Access to the library doors will be maintained with a pre-established access path leading to our entrance, however, during May 13 and 14, this will be limited. Commercial Street will be inaccessible May 10-15. Maps of the filming area and pathways are available on the Downtown Nanaimo website.
Will the Nanaimo Harbourfront branch close?
Update: The Harbourfront library will be closed on May 13 and 14. Closing of Commercial Street May 10-15. Access during this time will be available through the elevator in the parkade, under the Library. Nanaimo Harbourfront will remain open during most of the activity. However, the branch will be closed May 13 and 14. VIRL will also have a pop-up “boutique” library in the lobby of the Port Theatre behind the branch from 12 pm to 4 pm. Library users can check in and renew their materials, as well as check out a small available collection of staff picks and enter to win a prize!
What will happen during the days that Nanaimo Harbourfront branch is closed?

During the branch closure, a pop-up library will be available to the public in the lobby of the Port Theatre behind the branch. Library users can check in and renew their materials, as well as check out a small available collection of staff picks and enter to win a prize. This pop-up library will be available on May 13 and 14 from 12pm – 4m.
What services will be impacted during the closures?
Holds will be extended during the closure. There will be limited or no deliveries during the closure week, so items may be delayed across the library system, as well as Nanaimo Harbourfront library.

We’re not at liberty to divulge the TV series title (but you may have luck by Googling it).
