December 30, 2023: Service Disruption to Catalogues, Online Accounts, and eResources

On Saturday, December 30, beginning at approximately 3 am, our catalogue will be offline for an upgrade. During this 24-hour period branches will remain open, but, library users will not be able to:  

  • Search the online catalogue  
  • Log into their account to place holds or renew items  
  • Access our eResources 
  • Make online payments 
  • Use our telephone renewal line

Please also note that internet access will not be available in our Chemainus, Gabriola Island, Hornby Island, Sooke, and Tofino branches during this period of time.

Why will our services be down on December 30?

These services will be offline while our servers are moved to a new data centre in Canada. This move will provide more stability and ensure the best long-term support for our library users.

How long will the outage last?

We are expecting to complete this upgrade within 24 hours. Please check our website often for updates.

Will branches that are regularly open on Saturdays remain open?

Yes. Branches will follow their regular Saturday schedule.

How do I return items during the service disruption?

Materials can be returned to local branches and book drops during this period. Please note there may be a slight delay in processing the removal of checkout items from user accounts. There are no overdue fines on library materials.

How do I check out materials?

The self checkouts will be available and you may check items out at the service desks.

How will my holds be processed during this period?

Once our system is back online any holds that could not be picked up in December can be picked up on January 4th

How to I renew my items or manage my holds?

Unfortunately Customers will not be able to log on to their account to renew items or manage holds on December 30th.
