South Cowichan Alert

A presumptive case of COVID-19 at South Cowichan branch
We recently learned of a presumptive case of COVID-19 at the South Cowichan branch of Vancouver Island Regional Library. Dates of potential exposure include March 11, 12, 13, 16 and 17. The South Cowichan branch is located at 2720 Mill Bay Road in the same complex as the Thriftys, BC Liquor Store, and other establishments.
Because this case is presumptive and not confirmed, Island Health has advised that the level of risk is comparable to visiting an establishment such as a grocery store.
No risk assessment will be completed by Island Health.
If anyone who visited the branch on the affected days experiences the following symptoms, they should call 8-1-1 and self-isolate for 14 days following symptom onset:
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Fever
- Sore throat
- Difficulty breathing
The BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool will also help determine if further assessment or testing for COVID-19 is needed. The assessment can be completed by an individual or on behalf of someone else if they are unable to. More information on testing and self-isolation is available at http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19/testing-isolation.
More information about COVID-19 on Vancouver Island is available on the Vancouver Island Health Authority website at viha.ca and information specific to VIRL’s response is available at virl.bc.ca.
