Vancouver Island Regional Library is pleased to offer sensory support kits, provided in partnership with Autism Canada, at all 39 library branches. These kits are designed to help create welcoming, inclusive spaces by supporting anyone who may benefit from tools that help regulate sensory input or ease stressful situations during their visit.
What’s in a sensory support kit?
Each kit includes a selection of calming, comfort-focused items:
- A soft plush friend
- A cozy blanket
- Noise-reducing earmuffs
- Fidget items (Pop-it and spinner)
- Tinted glasses to help reduce visual sensitivity
These items can support focus, comfort, and emotional regulation for people of all ages.
Where to find them
Sensory support kits are easy to spot in clear, visible containers placed in high-traffic or high-visibility areas throughout the branch. If you are not able to find a kit, please feel free to ask a staff member for assistance.
You may also see kits highlighted during programs such as Storytime or displayed near service desks to make them even easier to access.
