Seed libraries continue to grow

April 5, 2023

Seed libraries are expanding across Vancouver Island Regional Library’s 39 branches as a way to promote food security and make growing accessible.

Sooke and Port Hardy are the latest branches to open seed libraries, which allow patrons to pick up free seed packets for their gardens. When community members harvest their crops, they are encouraged to try their hand at seed saving and donate any extras back to their seed library to help keep it stocked.

For more information about how seed libraries work, please connect with local library staff.
