Canada Post Strike service notice
May 23, 2025
May 23, 2025 Update – The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has stated that instead of a strike, which they gave notice for earlier this week, they would be implementing a nationwide overtime ban. The union has stated the decision to proceed with an overtime ban instead of a strike was to minimize disruptions to the public.
Until that time, Canada Post operations will continue as usual. However, the organization has warned that any labour disruption could significantly affect those who rely on postal services. This could lead to delays or interruptions in VIRL services that rely on postal delivery, potentially impacting library users and staff.
The following services may be affected:
- Books by Mail (customers may not be able to receive or return items or may experience delays)
- Rural branches which receive their materials via Canada Post: Port Renfrew, Bella Coola, Sandspit, Daajing Giids, Port Clements and Masset
- Magazine subscriptions (new deliveries will be disrupted at all branches)
- InterLibrary Loans
- BC One Card materials
- Receipt of invoices and mailing of cheques
- Some first-class mail
We will provide further updates as they become available. Thank you for your patience.
