VIRL | CUPE 2023 COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UPDATE (Joint Communication)

We are pleased to confirm that Vancouver Island Regional Library’s (VIRL’s) Board of Trustees and CUPE Local 401 members have jointly ratified a revised Collective Agreement based on the details of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by the parties on May 19, 2023. The ratification effective date is June 14, 2023.
This three (3) year agreement provides a 4% wage adjustment for all CUPE employees in 2023 and 2024 and a 3% wage increase in 2025. There are also changes to Collective Agreement language and increases to permanent employee health and welfare benefits. The MOA may be viewed here.
“As a board, we are thankful to both sides of the bargaining table for their commitment and dedication to reaching a fair and mutually beneficial agreement,” said VIRL Board Chair, Erin Hemmens.
