New date for the Sooke library opening

New date for the Sooke library grand opening celebrations

It is time to cut the ribbon and officially celebrate Sooke’s newest community amenity. Starting at approximately 2pm on Saturday, June 11, the Sooke branch of Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) will transform into the site of a lively celebration to officially open the state-of-the art new library after years of planning, consulting, and construction.

“From the moment the new branch opened its doors to the public in early 2022, the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive,” says VIRL Board Chair, Gaby Wickstrom. “I cannot wait to visit the library firsthand, and it will be a special moment when I see all the smiling faces of community members who waited so long for it to happen. This gorgeous new library is fast becoming a space of inspiration and excitement for Sooke library users, and it is just getting started.”

Final details for the celebration are still being organized, but the day promises to offer something for everyone, including special guests, children’s programs, live entertainment, music, speeches, snacks, refreshments, and much more.

More information and reminders will be shared on the Sooke library Facebook page and with local media in the days and weeks ahead.

The celebrations had previously been scheduled for late March but were delayed because of a now resolved labour disruption.

The branch has been open to the public since February 25, 2022.
