Job Description:

Vancouver Island Regional Library is looking for a Information Technician for a Permanent Part-Time opportunity for our South Cowichan Branch. 

The weekly schedule is currently:

Tuesday: 10:00am-6:00pm
Wednesday: 9:15am-5:15pm
Saturday: 9:15am-5:15pm

The Information Technician provides reader’s advisory and reference services to customers of all ages by working directly with the public in the assigned work location and providing back-up reader’s advisory and reference services to smaller branches in the Zone.  The Information Technician also assists the Library manager to maintain the branch collection, prepare displays and train public and staff in use of eResources and is a participating member of the branch team.

All duties and responsibilities are directly aligned with the Mission, Vision and Values and Strategic Plan of the Vancouver Island Regional Library.

Representative Duties:

  • Works on the Information Desk on a regularly scheduled basis, providing reader’s advisory and reference services to customers of all ages.
  • Under the direction of the Library Manager, adjusts and weeds the branch collection.
  • Prepares displays on specific topics.
  • Assists and instructs customers on the use of library resources, including eResources and self-service technology.
  • Assists in preparing and presenting branch programming.
  • Is able to carry out all representative duties as noted on the Library Assistant job description.
  • Other related duties as required.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Two year Library Technician Diploma.
  • Demonstrated reader’s advisory, reference and eResource skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Internet.
  • Effective trouble shooting skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work with the public – all ages.
  • Valid BC driver’s license.
  • Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector.
