Consumer Reports is a non-profit organization that tests and researches consumer products. Since 1936, their advocacy work has led to consumer protections including seatbelts in cars, but they are probably best known for their magazine. Long available in print, it is also available electronically with your library card. It provides articles and ratings for appliances, electronics, automobiles, and many other common household items.
Consumer Reports buying guides offer advice for what to look for when making a purchase. They compare different brands and models, designating “best picks” for those that rank highest in affordability, reliability, and features. The interface is intuitive and easily searched or browsed. It also includes Consumer Reports monthly magazine, information on older products including used cars, recalls, and a newly updated Holiday Gift Guide.
