SUMMARY:Water Justice: What You Don't Know Could Kill You with Author Susan Blacklin
DESCRIPTION:Following her acclaimed memoir Water Confidential\, Susan returns with a powerful examination of Canada’s ongoing water crisis—and the government failures that continue to put communities at risk. Join Susan Blacklin at the Parksville library in the Forum (across the hall) to learn about the issues surrounding safe drinking water. \nWater Justice reveals why safe drinking water and source water protection are not only Indigenous issues\, but concerns for every Canadian\, urban and rural alike. Susan explores government inaction\, corporate influence\, and the growing disconnect between citizens and those elected to represent them. \nMore than a book\, Water Justice is a call to action: protect our source waters\, demand accountability\, and take back control of our water and our democracy. \nWhat you don’t know could kill you. Together\, we can make a difference. \nAll are welcome to attend this free event\, which will include a Q&A and discussion. \n\nSusan Blacklin became interested in writing when she retired and published her first memoir in 2024\, Water Confidential: Witnessing Justice Denied. The fight for Safe Drinking Water in Indigenous and Rural Communities in Canada was selected by Congress of Humanities and is now included in Indigenous Studies curriculum in universities across Canada. It was also selected by BC Department of Education and is approved curriculum for grades ten through twelve Science and Social Studies. \nShe has recently released her second book\, Water Justice: What You Don’t Know Could Kill You\, a Call to Action which culminates in a a national Open Letter writing campaign hosted by the National Council of Women of Canada. \nAfter growing up in London England she fulfilled her childhood dream to emigrate to Canada at eighteen years of age. For fifteen years she and her late ex-husband Dr Hans Peterson founded the Safe Drinking Water Foundation and volunteered tirelessly to help First Nation communities in their quest for truly safe drinking water. \nSusan has lived in Winnipeg Manitoba\, Saskatoon and Outlook in Saskatchewan and now resides in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. Every day she appreciates that she now lives an idyllic life with her partner Roelof and when she isn’t writing she enjoys many hobbies; gardening\, cooking\, tutoring\, painting and knitting or walking the local beach in the summertime.
