SUMMARY:Truth 4 Reconciliation Film Night: The Great Salish Heist
DESCRIPTION:When sacred First Nations belongings are taken from burial sites\, Steve Joe\, a traditional archeologist for the Moquahat people\, believes the harm ripples outward\, bringing loss and misfortune to his family and community. \nConvinced the only way to set things right is to return the sacred objects to where they belong\, he assembles an unlikely crew from the Rez to break into a heavily secured museum and reclaim them. Their risky plan becomes even more complicated when Russian gangsters offer to finance the heist in exchange for a share of the haul\, forcing Steve to navigate temptation\, danger\, and divided loyalties. \nWhat follows is a fast-moving\, funny\, and suspenseful story about grief\, justice\, community\, and the question of whether taking back what was stolen can really be called theft. \nAcclaimed filmmaker Harold C. Joe will introduce his archaeological work and answer questions after the screening. \nThe film is presented in partnership with the Edward Milne Community School Society. \nThe showing is at the theatre at EMCS\, 6218 Sooke Road. \n
