In the final week of our SRC journey, we are turning our gaze to the Ultra-Violet – the realm of art, and history, and the history of art, and all things artistic.
Once upon a time our earliest ancestors dug their fingers into the ground and pulled up parts of the ground that seemed to stick in the same shape better than other bits, and so clay sculpture was born, a way to make figures and shapes that would last longer than a thought or a description. Ever since then we’ve loved to take stuff that’s squishy but also stays in the shape we put it in and make things out of it, a tradition we’re continuing this week with SALT-DOUGH SCULPTURES. Bring your fingers and your creativity and we’ll see what we all make!
Note: as the branch does not have any kind of oven available, sculptures will need to go home with their sculptors to either air-dry or be baked dry at 200F or lower over a long period; it may be worth bringing a container or a box to protect the sculpture on its journey home!
[Program designed for kids 4-8 but all ages welcome; all children under 9 must be accompanied by a responsible adult while in the library.]
