What is printmaking?

Printmaking has a long history, starting with stencils and woodblocks. At its core, printmaking means being able to make multiple copies of something. It encompasses technology, science, and art. In art, printmaking techniques combine individual creativity, elements of chance, and technical processes. Depending on the printmaking technique used and the goals of the artist, results can be “one-of-a-kind” or can be repeated in small or large runs. Printmaking can be as low tech and inexpensive as you can imagine, while some techniques use expensive equipment such as printing presses.

Our Printmaking Lab series is an opportunity for adults to experiment with a variety of low-cost, low-barrier printmaking techniques. The labs are a means to learn, experiment, explore possibilities, and find inspiration for techniques you can incorporate into your own practice. Whether you’re an experienced artist or a total beginner, whether this is your business or you just want to play and have fun, you are welcome to join us!
