Calling all VIRL poets!

Help us celebrate National Poetry Month in April 2021 by submitting your poems to our first VIRL Poem in Your Pocket contest! The contest is inspired by the “international movement that encourages folks to center poetry within their daily interactions” and share poems with others (League of Canadian Poets, “Poem in Your Pocket Day”).

We welcome and invite all submissions from new, emerging, and established poets. The selected winners will have their poems included in a Poem in Your Pocket booklet to be distributed in library branches across our service area during National Poetry Month (April). The booklet will also be available to share digitally.

How to submit:

  • Please send just ONE (1) poem per poet. Poems may be unpublished or previously published. There is no themejust send your best work!
  • Email your poem as a .DOC or .DOCX file (ideally Times New Roman, 12 pt) to NanaimoHarbourfront@virl.bc.ca
  • In the subject of the email, please write your name and the name of the piece you are submitting.
  • In the body of the email, please include the name of your piece and a brief bio (60 words or less). If you are submitting a previously published poem, please include the publication details.
  • To facilitate blind judging, please do not include your name anywhere on your piece.

The deadline for submissions is end of day March 5, 2021.
