Stop by the library and make an orange shirt out of perler beads in honour of Orange Shirt Day (September 30th).
Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on individual, family, and community, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. Kids will make their own orange shirt reminder with a perler bead craft designed by VIRL’s Indigenous Engagement and Services Committee, to take home with them and keep or give to others.
Event suited for ages 5 and up, as beads are small; younger children will need significant parental help. This is a drop-in program. Children under 10 require a responsible adult.
