What is Opus Babble?
If you love chatting about books but don’t want to commit to a book club, Opus Babble might be the setting for you!
Each month one author will be chosen. Participants can choose which month(s) they want to register for, and which book that they want to read by the chosen author. Discussion night will take place on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30pm. As a group we will discuss common threads in the author’s work, or any other observations that participants may have. Maybe you will even be inspired to read another book by the author!
Books will not be given out from a book club set. Participants can check the book out from our circulating collection in a format of their preference. Search the VIRL collection for Emily St. John Mandel books in various formats.
Our January author will be Emily St. John Mandel: Mandel is a Canadian author from Denman Island! She has written six novels, and her book Station Eleven was adapted into a series on HBO MAX. Her books range from dystopian sci-fi to psychological fiction. She has been nominated for the Giller Prize and the National Book Award for Fiction.
