Join us in learning Portuguese in a playful way, through the use traditional Brazilian songs and dances including Samba, Carimbo, Ciranda, Coco, Cacuria, Jongo, and Bumba meu Boi. Brazilian traditional songs and dances are influenced by African, European, and Indigenous culture. You will learn the Portuguese vocabulary associate with the songs, and some information about the historical and social context of the dances. This program is free and open to all nationalities, ages, and genders. It will be most suitable for adults and teens, but children are also welcome in the company of a participating adult.

About the instructor:

Carla Belas is from Brazil and has a broad knowledge about Brazilian culture due to her work as a sociologist and researcher for the Brazilian Heritage Institute. She has over 20 years of experience in documenting, safeguarding, and promoting traditional songs and dances from ethnic groups in communities throughout Brazil.
