An old film with a movie on the roll.

June 27 is Canadian Multiculturalism Day and our friends at Crimson Coast Dance Society are celebrating with a multicultural dance festival on the streets of downtown Nanaimo.

Inspired by this event, the Harbourfront Library will be screening some dance films, including the feel-good classic “Billy Elliot.” In this heart-warming film, the 11-year-old titular coal miner’s son stumbles upon a ballet class during his weekly boxing lesson. Before long, he is dancing, demonstrating seldom-seen raw talent.
