Dr. Brenda Trenholme, a retired doctor who travels around the world on her bicycle, will be in Campbell River on Nov. 6 to share her latest adventure.
Between August and October 2023, Trenholme cycled from Leh, India, to Kathmandu, Nepal. The journey is over 2,800 km.
Trenholme is sharing her adventures to increase awareness of an organization called the Kenya Education Endowment Fund (KEEF), a registered educational charity working in Kenya but based in B.C. KEEF provides scholarships to students from Kakamega County in Western Kenya to help pay fees for secondary and postsecondary education. In addition to scholarships, KEEF helps pay room and board fees, solar lamps for studying, shoes and bicycles for travelling to school, clean water, and latrines and kitchens in school. Trenholme fundraises for the organization.
The Asian 2,800 Odyssey is not her first adventure. In 2022, she cycled 6,000 km across South America. In 2018, she travelled the historic Silk Road from China to Turkey. Another adventure took her from Cairo, Egypt, to Capetown in South Africa.
On Nov. 6, she will be at the Library to give a two-hour talk and slide show about her adventure, starting at 1 p.m. Attendees will also have time to ask her questions about her travels.
