Backyard Seed Saving

An introduction to why and how to successfully save seeds in your backyard garden. Presentation will include a short history of seed cultivation, then focus on important concepts for seed saving. Topics covered will include: crop pollination method, hybridization, plant selection, population size, harvesting and cleaning seed.

Presentation will be hosted by Matthew Kemshaw. Matthew works as the EMCS Society Garden Coordinator, supporting garden care and engagement at four large high school food gardens in the Sooke School District. Matthew has been saving seed for over a decade, and has supported the creation of several seed libraries, including the Victoria Seed Library.
