Join us at 2pm on Saturday February 22nd for an afternoon with Susan Juby! This event will feature an author reading and question and answer period. Susan will be sharing excerpts from TWO unpublished works-in-progress, one a comedic crime novel for adults and the other a middle grade book to be published in 2021.
Susan Juby is a Vancouver Island University professor in the Creative Writing Department and prolific author. In 2016 she won the Stephen Leacock Award for humour for Republic of Dirt, and her Alice MacLeod YA trilogy was adapted into a TV series on CTV / the Comedy Network. Juby is well known for her humour and loving celebration of oddball characters. She has written YA contemporary and detective fiction, memoir, dystopian satire, and adult comedy. Her writing tackles a wide array of themes from a gay teen obsessed with an equestrian sport called dressage, her own substance abuse problem as a teenager, a ragtag group of misfits trying to run a Vancouver Island farm together, and two ambitious teens trying to win a fashion competition to get into art school.
Meg Cabot has said, about Susan Juby’s most recent novel, The Fashion Committee, “Susan Juby is a joy. Her ability to blend humour with gut-wrenching emotion is one in a million. The Fashion Committee is another winner by one of my all time favorite authors.”
This event is part of the author reading series Big Names, Little City. All events are moderated by members of the Federation of British Columbia Writers. Don’t miss other events at the Nanaimo Harbourfront Library featuring Michael Christie, Eve Joseph, and Billy-Ray Belcourt.
