Join us for a FREE food security learning bonanza at our two-day  ‘Fall Food’ skills forum taking place at the Cowichan Branch in Duncan on Oct 16 &1 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., each day to coincide with UN World Food Day.

The two days of workshops will have a lineup of local farmers, food producers, wild food foragers, a doctor of nutrition and  local author/filmmaker to share practical skills and empowering information with community members.

All day  – LOCAL SEED SWAP – bring seeds to share and take some home from our seed library

10 AM Backyard Chickens – hens in the house!

11 AM Beekeeping Basics – live hive and honey tasting

12 PM Cooking with Mushrooms with an Island Health Dietician

1 PM BREAK

2PM- 4PM Grounded in my Roots Documentary with nutrition expert, athlete and local author Nicolette Richer, PhD in attendance! Watch the trailer here. 

She will also share nutrition information from her books about reversing and preventing chronic disease through diet.

Copies of the author’s books will be available for purchase. Books are also available from Volume One Bookstore in Duncan.

Oct 17 – REGISTRATION REQUIRED. FULL.

10 AM – 12:00 PM Vegan/Gluten Free Falafel Making with the owners of Duncan’s fave food truck Falafel Land! Learn to make middle eastern favourites: falafel, tahini, & roasted eggplant salad.

1:30-4 PM – Sauerkraut Making the traditional lacto-fermentation way. Take home your homemade jar of sauerkraut to ferment and enjoy!

All supplies provided. Must be comfortable standing and chopping at a counter.
