SUMMARY:Family Storytime
DESCRIPTION:Join us for songs\, stories and fun with your little ones. This is a free family drop-in program for babies\, toddlers\, preschoolers\, and their caregivers. Ages 0-5. \nReading and singing are two of the most important activities for building early literacy and language skills\, and we will practice lots of both! Creating an early positive association with books by reading together (or in a fun environment like Storytime!) can help foster a lifelong love of reading.  Rhymes and singing help young developing brains break apart language and make sense of it. Storytime also provides socialization opportunities for both little ones as well as adult caregivers looking to make connections in the community. All around it’s a good time!

DESCRIPTION:Children in Kindergarten to Grade 4 are invited to practice their reading by signing up for a one hour session with one of the library’s teen volunteers.  Sessions include one-on-one reading time as well as fun literacy-related games and activities. \nJANUARY/FEBRUARY SCHEDULE: \nThursdays 3:30 – 4:30 PM \nFriday  3 – 4 PM \nAdvanced registration required.  Reserve a spot today by phoning or emailing the branch:  250-933-2665 / NanaimoNorth@virl.bc.ca \nReading Buddies is a reading program where children are paired up with a TAG (Teen Advisory Group) volunteer for one-on-one reading sessions in a safe\, fun and friendly environment.  Reading Buddies is not a tutoring program; teen volunteers do not teach children how to read.  Instead\, children develop reading skills by connecting with a big buddy who can show them how much fun reading can be.
