Young readers can bring a book and sign up for a 20-minute reading session with Carlie\, a certified therapy dog from the Pacific Animal Therapy Society. \nCarlie is a patient and friendly listener who loves stories and meeting new friends. This program helps children practice reading aloud with a comforting companion\, build confidence\, and make reading a fun experience. \nTo register\, visit the branch or call 250-642-3022 to book a 20-minute slot. An adult must accompany each child. \nThe Pacific Animal Therapy Society has been providing compassionate pet therapy to Vancouver Islanders for over 35 years. \n

After retiring Mike and his partner Mary moved to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island\, Mary encouraged him to expand his garden knowledge and he completed the classroom training and VIMGA Intern experience requirements and became a Certified Master in 2017. He has held various positions with Vancouver Island Master Gardeners and now serves as the President. He enjoys lifelong learning and sharing his experience and knowledge with others. \nABOUT VIMGA: \nThe Vancouver Island Master Gardeners Association (VIMGA) is a chapter of the Master Gardeners Association\, an international service society of specially trained volunteers who teach science-based sustainable gardening practices to home gardeners. VIMGA is one of the 5 chapters in the British Columbia Association and partnering with the Victoria chapter\, specializes in the stewardship of Vancouver Island’s unique environment.
