Public Access Computers

Public Access Computers are provided at all VIRL branches.  Computer use is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to one hour per member, per day.

All material that becomes public must respect the rights and dignity of people; it is unacceptable to display or print sexually explicit or racist material where others are likely to see it.  Use of the Internet and computer stations is governed by the Internet Access Policy set by the Vancouver Island Regional Library Board of Trustees.

Our public access computers are configured with a system called USERFUL.  For more information on these computers visit our Public Computer Configuration.

Community Access Program funding

Industry Canada has provided funding for some of our public access computers through its Community Access Program (CAP). This program provides Canadians with affordable public Internet access and the skills required to use it. The mission of CAP is to assist Canadians in both rural and urban communities to take advantage of emerging opportunities presented by the global knowledge-based economy.
