The purpose of this policy is to enhance the protection and safety of those using the Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) and to ensure that a visit to a library is a pleasant experience. Violation of the Rules of Conduct may result in suspension of privileges and or expulsion from library premises.
Rules of Conduct
VIRL is open to the public provided they conduct themselves in a reasonable manner. Behavior, including;
- Conduct or language, which is noisy, disorderly, abusive, insulting, harassing, or illegal is prohibited.
- Persons engaging in prohibited behaviours may be escorted off the premises.
- Members of the public may be required to make available for inspection all bags and carrying cases when leaving the building.
- Persons found stealing, damaging or defacing VIRL property or materials will have their library privileges cancelled and will be prosecuted.
- Parents and or legal guardians are responsible for the supervision of their children in the library.
- VIRL does not accept any responsibility for personal items lost or stolen on its premises.
- Shoes and shirts must be worn.
- Roller blades/skate boards may not be used in the library.
- Pets are not allowed on the premises, with the exception of trained assistance animals.
- Soliciting, canvassing, selling or distributing unsolicited materials on library property is prohibited.
- Authorization from the Director of Library Services must be obtained for photographing, filming or video recording on all library premises.
