Downtown Nanaimo Prepares for Major Filming Production with Some Closures Between April 22 & May 31

Excitement is buzzing in the Diana Krall Plaza just outside of our Nanaimo Harbourfront library as preparations for the filming of a major production from April 22 to May 31 are taking place.

The filming will close sections of downtown Nanaimo near the library in three phases over the course of the five weeks of filming. During this time, the library will remain open to library users and staff, except for two days during the filming in the second or third week of May. These dates are still to be determined, but we’ll update staff as soon as possible.

Questions and Answers

How will the library be impacted?
During filming (between the dates of April 22 and May 31) public areas surrounding the library branch will be intermittently closed to the public. Access to the library doors will be maintained with a pre-established access path leading to our entrance. Maps of the filming area and pathways are available on the Downtown Nanaimo website and on the second page of this document.

Will the Nanaimo Harbourfront branch close?
Nanaimo Harbourfront will remain open during most of the activity. However, it is anticipated that the branch will be closed for two days during filming in the second or third week of May. We are confirming the two days of impact at this moment and will be letting everyone know as soon as possible.

What will happen during the days that Nanaimo Harbourfront branch is closed?
A plan is being developed to offer library service work options during these closed days. This may include a pop-up library for the public in a nearby location, but we will know more once the closure dates are confirmed.

What services will be impacted during the closures?
We are looking at all services currently including a delay in deliveries during the closure, programming impacts, and potentially extending holds for library users. A plan is being developed and as soon as we have closure dates confirmed, we will share these details with the community.

How will we inform the public about the closures and impact?
