BC OneCards


The BC OneCard is a library card for BC residents that opens the door to public libraries wherever you travel or stay in British Columbia.

How do I get a BC OneCard at VIRL?

  • You must be a BC resident.
  • Show a public library card issued by your home library.
  • Show personal ID and proof of residence.


What if I don’t have my Library Card with me?

You need it to sign up for a BC OneCard, so don’t leave home without it.

What services does VIRL offer BC OneCard customers?

BC OneCard Customers can:

  • borrow books and CDs for 3 weeks
  • borrow DVDs and Express Reads for 1 week
  • borrow talking books (if registered as an audiobook customer)
  • renew items up to two times if they are not requested by other customers
  • use the Internet in the Branches for free
  • participate in library programs
  • BC OneCard Customers cannot request items or borrow from special collections (reference, magazines, kits)


Where do I return books that I’ve borrowed?

Materials may be returned to any BC public library.

Where can I use my BC OneCard?

Use your BC OneCard at any public library in the province. At each library you will also need to provide current ID with proof of your contact information.

When do I have to return the materials?

The library you borrow the materials from will let you know when they are due.

Where do I pay fines owing on books I borrow?

Fines and charges on materials are payable to the library you borrowed them from. Libraries are unable to take payment or charges that accumulate on items borrowed from other libraries
