Help your child get ready to read!
Parents and caregivers play an integral part in the development of children’s early literacy skills. The following resources are available for parents and caregivers to help children develop language and pre-reading skills starting at birth.
The library provides wonderful literacy-based resources for children. These specialized theme-based kits contain 10-15 items including books, multi-media items, toys, puzzles and games aimed at babies, toddlers, preschoolers. Each Kit also contains an early literacy binder full of fantastic ideas and activities to encourage pre-reading and early literacy skills.

Kindergarten Kits are a specialized resource, modelled after the literacy kits, for children in Kindergarten. Each Kindergarten Kit contains approximately 10-15 items including books, felt stories, puppets, puzzles, CDs, DVDs and an early literacy information sheet. Kit themes are based on the Public Library Association “100 Picture Books to Read in Kindergarten” list and include Animal Stories, Folk Tales, Imagination, Concepts, Stories in Rhyme, Humorous Stories and more. These kits provide parents, caregivers and teachers the opportunity to borrow tote boxes filled with great library resources for Kindergarten students in support of the newly implemented all day Kindergarten school program.

Early Learning Games
Early learning games are educational games designed to build kindergarten readiness skills. Topics range from learning the alphabet to counting skills and pattern recognition.
