Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) serves approximately 430,000 people on Vancouver Island, Haida Gwaii and the Central Mainland Coast through 39 branch libraries and a Virtual Branch, with a staff of approximately 400 employees. We currently have the following opportunity based in Nanaimo

The Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) is seeking a casual Customer Services Librarian to fill in for sick and vacation hours. Applicants will be available to work in the Nanaimo Harbourfront Branch.

The Customer Services Librarian is an active member of a strong branch team that provides outstanding customer service to library users and coordinated delivery of public services for all members of the community. This position requires an energetic, resourceful and adaptable individual who firmly believes in providing excellent customer service.

Under the direction of the Library Manager your representative duties will include the following areas of responsibility:

  1. Provides leadership, coordination and continuing evaluation of the delivery of public services with the focus on building and maintaining strong and informed team(s) in a customer-focused environment;
  2. Promotes staff commitment and a focus towards organizational goals and direction;
  3. Oversees the effective and efficient coordination of projects;
  4. Provides leadership and initiative in the delivery of programs, services and projects that advance the service goals and strategic direction of the system
  5. Participates in cross-functional teams for the implementation of system wide initiatives;
  6. Maintains branch collection(s). Identifies collection development priorities and provides input to Library Manager;
  7. Provides information services and readers’ advisory;
  8. Working with Library Manager, liaises and partners with external organizations and groups to increase the use of library resources and services;
