Customer FAQ – BC Libraries to Go after June 30, 2015

Vancouver Island Regional Library offers access to thousands of eBooks and audiobooks through OverDrive, one of North America’s digital distributors to public libraries. Currently, we provide customers two collections of OverDrive-distributed digital content: “BC Libraries to Go” and “Vancouver Island Library to Go”. As of June 30, we will be consolidating our two “Library to Go” collections into one collection, for a single point of access to OverDrive titles. What this means is that VIRL customers will no longer go to the “BC Libraries to Go” site for their eBook and audiobook needs, but rather to VIRL Library to Go.

What will happen if I try to log onto BC Libraries to Go ( after June 30?

After June 30, you will be automatically redirected to if you attempt to log in at BC Libraries to Go.

If I’ve checked out a book from BC Libraries to Go and it’s not due until after June 30, will I get to keep it for the full borrowing period?

As long as you have downloaded the title onto a device (tablet or eReader), you will be able to complete the loan period. However, if you have not downloaded the title onto a device you will lose access to the title after June 30.

What if I have a hold on an ebook in BC Libraries to Go and it’s not available before June 30? 

If we are able to re-obtain the title, your hold will be automatically transferred to VIRL to Go and you will reserve your place in line. Titles with holds on them have been flagged for acquisition.

What will happen to the BC Libraries to Go menu option on mytablet or smartphone’s OverDrive app?

If you try to access BC Libraries to Go from your list of libraries in the app, you will be redirected to the VIRL collection. We recommend removing “BC Libraries to Go” from your list of OverDrive libraries (uncheck the star).

Will the same titles be available in VIRL to Go that were in BC Libraries to Go?

Yes, our library staff are doing their best to ensure all popular titles are moved over from the BC site to the VIRL to Go site.  If there is a certain title that we may have missed please fill out a “Suggest an Item” form online or contact your local library.

What about titles I’ve added to my Wish List?

Titles in your Wish List have also been flagged for moving to the consolidated VIRL to Go.
