As a First Nation woman, Geraldine’s passion is filled with being supportive and advocating for all entering into higher education of Vancouver Island University (VIU).  
She is a member of Snuneymuxw First Nation and was appointed as the first full-time VIU Faculty, Elder-in-Residence in 2012. The Elder-in-Residence position at VIU provides guidance and support to Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal students, and share traditional knowledge and practices to the Faculty of Health and Human Services (HHS). Before Manson's position as the Elder's role with VIU, she spent 17 years as an Elder’s Co-ordinator for her community.  A key part of Manson's role with HHS will be to help move Aboriginal knowledge further into the regular curriculum. Geraldine assists across campus in co-teaching in the Arts-One Program and Bridging Program also.
