Elder Dianne Maclean

Dianne Maclean (Metis)

Dianne Maclean is a Metis, whose Native Ancestry is from the Red River.  She spent her first 10 years in Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii, where her father was a Halibut Fisherman, a trapper and a diver. Much of her early life was spent in the bush where she learned hunting, trapping and fishing skills, as well as a basic knowledge of traditional foods and medicines, which have become an important focus of her life. When she became a Registered Nurse, she had the honour of caring for many distinguished Elders from different Nations. At 52 years old she was blanketed and made an Elder at the International Indigenous Leadership Gathering. She has lived in the Comox Valley for 20 years and works as an Elder and cultural teacher for School District 71, Early Years Aboriginal Program, and other Aboriginal groups in the Community.
